I Think I Found Them
The perfect summer (and beyond) platform sandal! These are clogs from the famous No. 6
I love them because they get your foot up off the disgusting, baking pavement (subway platforms in summer…some of us are stuck here!) without being obvious “elevator” shoes!

The Evolution of a Look
Here’s a little project: getting this look together from various impulse purchases on eBay.
The skirt was the result of a search for “Vintage Eyelet” after seeing the latest collection by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. What turned up was this 50’s eyelet skirt from the estate of singer Yma Sumac, known as the Queen of Exotica.
I found the top in a search for pieces by Rifak Ozbek, Turkish-born fashion designer who was huge in the 80’s and early 90’s. I thought, with today’s obsession with pattern and texture mixing, I might turn up some interesting pieces by this somewhat forgotten designer cheap on eBay. This sweater is silky soft, open-weave with a wonderful spidery texture.
They go great together, don’t you think?
The “project” is that the skirt needs to be dry cleaned and hemmed, and since both pieces are open weaved, I need the proper underpinning for them- a black full length slip? Or should I pay to have a lining made for the skirt? Since both skirt and top were very affordable ( under 30$), that might be a good investment.
See? This is how I work: Look at the collections and try to figure out the basis of the looks in vintage, you’ll usually find it. Also, look out for forgotten designers…you can find great work of the past that is undervalued.
